Environmental Policy – Façade Creations Ltd

Introduction and Purpose

Façade Creations Ltd (“the Company”) is committed to environmental protection and sustainable business practices in all aspects of our operations. As a specialist in bespoke aluminium façade design, manufacturing, and installation, we recognise the environmental impacts of our activities and the importance of mitigating them. This Environmental Policy outlines our commitments, responsibilities, and procedures to ensure full compliance with UK environmental laws and to support national sustainability goals. We are dedicated to continual improvement in environmental performance, aligning with the UK’s target of Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050 assets.publishing.service.gov.uk and other governmental initiatives.

Scope of the Policy

This policy applies to all Company operations, including design, procurement, fabrication, logistics, and on-site installation activities, across the UK and any international projects. It covers our offices, manufacturing facilities, and project sites, and applies to all employees, officers, and contractors (whether full-time, part-time, or temporary). We also communicate relevant aspects of this policy to key stakeholders such as clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to demonstrate our environmental commitments.

Legal Compliance and Standards

Façade Creations Ltd will comply with all applicable environmental legislation and regulations, including but not limited to the Environmental Protection Act 1990, the Control of Pollution Act 1974, and the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011. We are committed to fulfilling our Duty of Care with respect to waste management under these laws. In addition, we align our practices with UK government guidelines and initiatives, such as the Procurement Policy Note PPN 06/21 (which encourages suppliers bidding for major contracts to publish Carbon Reduction Plans aimed at Net Zero 2050 assets.publishing.service.gov.uk) and the principles of the Construction Playbook for sustainable construction. This Environmental Policy operates in conjunction with our related corporate policies, including our Carbon Reduction Plan and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy. We also aim to achieve ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification as the business grows, and we support industry best practices and accreditation schemes (e.g. BREEAM standards for projects) to continuously improve our environmental performance.

Roles, Responsibilities and Governance

Board and Senior Management: The Board of Directors has overall responsibility for the Company’s environmental strategy and performance. Environmental stewardship is recognised at the highest level as a key aspect of our business strategy and risk management. The Board and senior management will regularly review environmental risks and opportunities, integrating climate-related considerations into business decisions.

Environmental Management Lead: Day-to-day oversight of environmental management is delegated to the Director responsible for sustainability (currently Mr. Hashim Choksi). The Director, supported by the Administration and Project Coordination team, ensures that this policy is implemented and that environmental objectives are met. They monitor compliance, drive initiatives, and report on progress to senior management and the Board. The Director also leads the review of this policy (at least annually or as needed) and updates it to reflect any changes in legislation or company operations.

Employees and Contractors: All employees and contractors of Façade Creations share responsibility for upholding the principles of this Environmental Policy. Every team member is expected to follow sustainable practices in their day-to-day work, whether in the office, on project sites, or working remotely. We promote awareness of environmental obligations relevant to each role and encourage staff to incorporate environmental considerations into their decisions. Compliance with this policy and related procedures is a condition of employment and contracting. Managers at all levels are responsible for ensuring their teams understand and adhere to these requirements.

Suppliers and Partners: We engage our supply chain in our environmental efforts. When entering into contracts or agreements, suppliers and subcontractors are informed of our environmental standards and are expected to comply with equivalent sustainable practices. We may conduct due diligence (e.g. environmental questionnaires or pre-qualification checks) to assess suppliers’ environmental policies or commitments. While we may not be able to work exclusively with suppliers based on sustainability criteria, we favour and publicly prefer those who demonstrate efforts to minimise environmental impact. Environmental expectations (such as proper waste management and compliance with environmental laws) are included in our procurement documentation and project contracts.

Environmental Objectives and Key Commitments

Energy and Resource Efficiency

We strive to reduce our consumption of energy and water and improve overall resource efficiency in our operations. Key measures include:

  • Efficient Energy Use: Utilizing energy-efficient office equipment, machinery, and LED lighting in our offices and fabrication facilities. We also operate primarily via cloud-based IT systems to reduce the energy footprint of local servers. Whenever feasible, we purchase 100% renewable electricity for our sites to further cut Scope 2 emissions.
  • Travel and Transport: Encouraging hybrid working arrangements (combining remote and on-site work) to lower commuting and business travel emissions. We promote the use of public transport, carpooling, and fuel-efficient or electric vehicles for work-related travel. We also carefully plan site visits and logistics to avoid unnecessary journeys.
  • Water Conservation: Using water responsibly in all our activities, such as during façade installation and cleaning on construction sites. We implement measures to avoid water wastage and monitor water usage where possible, especially in manufacturing processes.

Waste Management and Recycling

Façade Creations is committed to the principles of the waste hierarchy – reduce, reuse, recycle – for all waste generated in our offices, fabrication units, and construction sites. Our waste management practices include:

  • Construction and Fabrication Waste: Segregating and managing waste materials (including aluminium off-cuts, glass, steel, timber, and packaging) in accordance with UK waste hierarchy principles. We strive to minimise waste at source through careful design and cutting practices, and reuse materials whenever feasible.
  • Proper Disposal and Recycling: Utilizing certified waste carriers for the collection, recycling, and disposal of waste, and maintaining full records (waste transfer notes, disposal certificates) for traceability and legal compliance. We recycle metal, glass, plastic, paper/cardboard and other recyclable materials wherever possible.
  • Hazardous and Special Waste: Ensuring any hazardous or non-recyclable waste (such as certain sealants, adhesives, or contaminated materials) is stored, handled, and disposed of safely by licensed specialist contractors. We follow all applicable regulations for handling hazardous substances to prevent pollution.
  • Office Waste Reduction: Embracing digital-first processes to reduce paper use and office waste. For example, we use electronic communications and documentation to minimise printing. Any general office waste is sorted for recycling and disposal as appropriate.

Pollution Prevention and Site Environmental Control

We are committed to preventing pollution and minimising environmental disturbances from our project activities. On all project sites and facilities, Façade Creations employs appropriate control measures:

  • Dust and Air Quality Control: Implementing dust suppression techniques (e.g. water spraying, vacuum cutting tools) and maintaining clean work areas to limit dust emissions, especially during cutting, grinding or drilling processes.
  • Noise Management: Using noise control barriers, silenced equipment, and scheduling work at appropriate hours to comply with local noise regulations. We aim to minimise noise pollution for site workers and nearby communities.
  • Protection of Land and Water: Preventing soil and water pollution through proper containment measures. This includes having spill containment kits on sites, using drip trays for equipment, and implementing runoff controls to avoid any contaminated runoff entering drains or watercourses.
  • Legal Compliance: Strictly adhering to relevant pollution control laws and permits, including the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and any local environmental regulations applicable to our works. We ensure any discharge to air, water, or land is within permitted levels and seek to exceed basic compliance by employing best practices in construction environmental management.

Sustainable Procurement and Supply Chain

Environmental considerations are integrated into our procurement and supply chain management:

  • Material Selection: We consider the environmental impact of materials used in our façade solutions. Priority is given to materials with verified sustainable credentials, such as low-carbon aluminium, recycled or recyclable glass, FSC-certified timber, and other products with environmental certifications. We also evaluate the durability and lifecycle impact of materials to favour those that reduce waste and improve building sustainability (e.g. components that can be disassembled and recycled at end-of-life).
  • Supplier Standards: We expect our suppliers and subcontractors to share our commitment to environmental responsibility. All approved suppliers and subcontractors are required to follow sustainable and environmentally responsible practices as a condition of doing business with us. We communicate environmental expectations in our supplier contracts and request evidence of compliance (for example, asking suppliers to provide their own environmental policies or action plans).
  • Influencing and Collaboration: Where possible, we collaborate with suppliers to reduce the environmental impacts of goods and services provided. We acknowledge that immediate substitution of suppliers based solely on sustainability may not always be feasible; however, by raising environmental questions during procurement, we aim to influence positive change in our supply chain. We prefer working with suppliers who demonstrate efforts to minimise their environmental footprint and will publicly communicate this preference.
  • Sustainable Logistics: We optimize our logistics (shipping and deliveries) to reduce fuel use and emissions – for example, consolidating deliveries, using efficient routing, and exploring low-emission transportation options for deliveries and on-site operations.

Staff Training and Awareness

Building an environmentally conscious culture within Façade Creations is a key objective. We ensure that:

  • Training: All employees receive basic environmental awareness training as part of their induction/orientation. This introduces our Environmental Policy, key procedures (like waste segregation, emergency spill response), and individual responsibilities.
  • Toolbox Talks and Briefings: We incorporate environmental topics into regular “toolbox talks,” site inductions, and project briefings. Topics include proper waste segregation, efficient use of resources (energy, materials), and pollution prevention measures relevant to the ongoing work.
  • Continuous Awareness: Management actively encourages staff to propose ideas for improving sustainability in our operations. We maintain open communication channels for environmental suggestions, and exceptional initiatives or improvements by staff are recognized. We also share updates on environmental performance and initiatives during staff meetings to keep everyone informed and engaged.
  • Well-being and Culture: We promote a positive culture around sustainability, emphasizing that environmental action is a shared responsibility and a source of pride. By fostering this culture, we aim to combat any feelings of climate “hopelessness” and empower our team to contribute to solutions.

Carbon Management and Climate Change

Façade Creations is committed to playing its part in mitigating climate change by managing and reducing our carbon footprint. Our approach includes:

  • Carbon Footprint Monitoring: We measure and monitor our carbon emissions as part of our Carbon Reduction Plan. This includes estimating emissions from various sources such as electricity and fuel use, employee travel, logistics, and materials production. We track Scope 1, 2, and relevant Scope 3 emissions and update our carbon footprint data annually.
  • Targets for Emissions Reduction: The Company is committed to achieving significant carbon reductions in line with national targets. Specifically, we aim to reduce our absolute greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2035 (against our baseline) and to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, consistent with UK Government climate goals. Ambitiously, we will strive to reach net zero sooner if possible. Our Carbon Reduction Plan (developed in line with PPN 06/21) details interim milestones toward these goals, and progress is reported transparently.
  • Net Zero and Beyond: We support the UK’s Net Zero 2050 commitment and have aligned our business strategy accordingly. We continually explore ways to decarbonise our operations – for example, by increasing energy efficiency (as described above), transitioning to renewable energy sources, and exploring electrification of our vehicle fleet. We also engage with clients and suppliers on low-carbon solutions (such as low-carbon materials and methods) to reduce the wider value-chain emissions. Where emissions cannot be eliminated, we will consider credible offsetting or carbon removal projects as a last resort, to neutralize our carbon impact on the path to net zero.

Sustainable Construction and Environmental Management in Projects

In delivering our projects, especially large or complex façade installations, we incorporate environmental management into project planning and execution:

  • Environmental Management Plans: For significant projects, Façade Creations develops site-specific Environmental Management Plans (EMPs). These plans identify project-specific environmental risks and detail the controls for managing waste, protecting ecology, controlling pollution (dust, noise, water quality), and handling materials sustainably. Each EMP is reviewed and approved by a Director or the project lead before work commences to ensure it meets our policy standards.
  • On-site Implementation: Project Managers are responsible for implementing the EMP and ensuring that all site personnel (including subcontractors) understand and follow the environmental controls in place. Regular site inspections and audits are conducted to verify compliance with the EMP and identify areas for improvement.
  • Emergency Preparedness: We maintain procedures for environmental emergencies, such as spills or uncontrolled emissions. Spill response kits and training are provided at construction sites and facilities to ensure rapid response to incidents, minimizing any environmental damage.
  • Innovation in Sustainable Construction: We continuously seek innovative design and construction methods that improve environmental performance. This includes integrating principles of circular economy into façade design (e.g. designing façades for disassembly and reuse), considering whole-life environmental impacts of our façade solutions, and pursuing relevant sustainable construction certifications or ratings for projects (such as BREEAM or LEED, where applicable).

Documentation and Reporting

We maintain thorough documentation to demonstrate compliance and support transparency in our environmental performance:

  • Compliance Records: All environmental compliance documents are diligently maintained, including waste transfer notes, consignment notes for hazardous waste, recycling certificates, supplier environmental declarations, and any audit or inspection reports. These records are stored and managed in accordance with regulatory requirements and are readily available for inspection by clients or regulators.
  • Client and Stakeholder Reporting: Upon request, Façade Creations will provide environmental performance information to clients, regulators, or sustainability assessors. This may include summaries of waste management outcomes, energy use data, carbon footprint reports, or progress against environmental targets. We are committed to transparency and will accurately report our environmental achievements and challenges.
  • Internal Reporting: Internally, environmental performance metrics (such as waste recycling rates, energy consumption, carbon emissions, etc.) are reported to senior management on a periodic basis. Significant findings or incidents are escalated to the Board as part of risk management and continuous improvement processes.

Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement

Façade Creations monitors the effectiveness of this Environmental Policy and associated procedures through regular reviews and performance assessments. Progress against our environmental objectives and targets is evaluated at least annually. This includes reviewing our carbon reduction progress, waste reduction achievements, training completion rates, and compliance audit results. Key performance indicators are used to track trends over time and identify opportunities for improvement.

This Environmental Policy is formally reviewed annually under the direction of the responsible Director and updated as necessary to reflect changes in law, emerging best practices, and the evolution of our business activities. We also undertake interim reviews if there are significant changes in relevant legislation or if our operations change substantially (for example, expansion to new regions or introduction of new processes). Any updates to the policy will be approved by senior management and communicated to all employees and stakeholders as appropriate.

Continuous improvement is at the heart of our environmental management system. We set new environmental goals as current ones are achieved, and we remain agile in adopting new technologies or practices that can enhance sustainability. Through ongoing monitoring and feedback, we strive to learn from our experiences — both successes and any incidents or near-misses — to strengthen our environmental performance. The Company fosters a culture where environmental considerations are a key factor in decision-making and innovation.
